When was the last time you sat in the grass
and just listened to the sounds of the world?
Can you imagine a time that you
looked at clouds
and saw dragons
and couldn't tear your eyes away?
Did you try to point it out to someone else?
'It's right there' you say as you point -
'do you see it?
Do you see what I see?'
Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.
And soon enough the dragons move along
and become other images -
but today, in that moment -
they belonged to you.
Dreams are like that.
They call us to see what is not there,
to see what is not visible to everyone -
to see something magical that only we can bring to life.
Without them there is no electricity -
or apple pie
or water slides
or justice.
To dream though requires something of us.
We must get still
and listen
as the breeze gently blows
and the wind chimes spangle.
We probably need to close our eyes
and look down, at our feet, at the place they are planted
and look inside, at our heart, at what grows there
but maybe
also keep our eyes wide open, searching
looking up
from our phones and our jobs and our lists and our problems
to see what is on the horizon
to catch a bit of the vision
that God offers everyday.
So I ask again...
When was the last time you sat in the grass
and just listened to the sounds of the world?
It is okay to dream just a little.
Better even - it is necessary.
For otherwise, who will tend to those dragons?

If people can’t see what God is doing,
they stumble all over themselves;
But when they attend to what he reveals,
they are most blessed.
Proverbs 29:18
