Wake Up to Possibility
I'm so grateful I get to participate in creative, entrepreneurial ministry. AND - it comes with certain difficulties. One is the gift and challenge of constantly shifting between different ideas. One practice I've found so helpful when trying to plan the next thing is to see where I can join God where God is already at work. This goes for all of us. We don't always need to come up with something innovative and new, where the pressure is all on us. Instead - we ask God for the invitation. Where are we being called into serving others?
Yesterday our Books + Brekky group met to discuss Rob Bell's book Everything is Spiritual. One of the most striking quotes in the book for me was this one, where Bell talks about life and calling: “We’re all endlessly figuring it out because Spirit keeps doing something new. We can fight this, resist this, dig in our heels, wish things were the way they used to be, or we can embrace it. We can choose to see it with fear and frustration, or we can see it as thrilling and invigorating."
It is an incredible skill to be able to pivot our minds to this way of thinking. Are you able to shift from holding fast to your way, or are you open to the idea that there might be something else? Sometimes I do better than others at this. Often I just find myself leaning into anxiety about all the things I have no control over (which is truly everything, right?). It is hard to release into the flow of something bigger happening than we can see. Maybe it is okay to let go...?
A few weeks ago in our History, Poets, Wisdom group we discussed the book of Job. It was compelling to hear the group talk about the weird comfort of God telling Job in the final chapters of the book that Job really has no clue what's going on. God sees so much more than we do. As much as we may want to understand more - sometimes it makes sense to take a deep breath, recognize we only have our limited point of view, and give in to something so much larger than we are.
What possibilities are you considering? What are you being called into? May you wake up to new possibilities.
