Finally... Summer. You made it.
The question is... will anything change for you? Or will this "lighter season" be just another over scheduled season with less structure?
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." How are you experiencing weariness in your life? Where are you bone tired? Where do you need to rest? Or perhaps you're in a space of rest, with plans in place, or with no plans in place - just ready for a little relaxation. No matter what, our faith encourages - commands - downtime.
Where will you find time to coast? What will that look like? How can you hang on to a mindset of a Sabbath lifestyle instead of a 30 minute break one summer afternoon?
I'd invite you to think of what you loved about summer as a child. We lived in the country and I loved hearing the cicadas chirp, time on our family's screened in porch, visiting my grandparents, and catching fireflies. I loved quiet, dark nights on our porch swing, and talking with my parents. I loved the summer reading program at the library and making homemade ice cream. Looking back, it does seem the most simple things are often what we remember. Is there a way to incorporate what you loved about summer into this summer?
Whether you are traveling or just living, a good reminder is don't overpack. Luggage and life are lighter when we simplify.
Rest, enjoy, breathe deep, travel light. Coast a little bit. You won't regret it.
